Choosing a toothbrush is an important factor in making sure your teeth, gums and mouth stay healthy. The American Dental Association (<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20251212005040\/https:\/www.ada.org\/\">ADA<\/a>) provides guidance in choosing a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20251212005040\/https:\/www.ada.org\/resources\/research\/science-and-research-institute\/oral-health-topics\/toothbrushes\">toothbrush<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Either manual or powered toothbrushes can be used effectively. A powered toothbrush may be preferable for those having dexterity issues, such as the elderly or small children. Powered toothbrushes may also be helpful for people with braces or dental appliances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Soft bristles are preferred, as they provide the recommended level of cleaning without damaging delicate gum tissues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A toothbrush with multi-level or angled bristles will clean better than one where the bristles are flat-trimmed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>With powered toothbrushes, there are multiple types of head movements that can be effective: side-to-side, counter oscillation, rotation oscillation, circular, ultrasonic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Look for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20251212005040\/https:\/www.ada.org\/resources\/research\/science-and-research-institute\/ada-seal-of-acceptance\">ADA Seal of Acceptance<\/a>\u00a0when choosing a toothbrush.
